Gladys Porter Zoo

The Gladys Porter Zoo, located in Brownsville, Texas, averages over a quarter million visitors annually. Located on a vast 31 acres, the Gladys Porter Zoo offers over four hundred different species of animals, including giraffes, servals, and lions. The zoo was built in 1971, and has expanded often since, including an Aquatic Wing and Australian exhibit. The zoo also includes a botanical park, with over 250 tropical species to its name.

The Gladys Porter Zoo focuses on education and conservation, and offers many classes and exhibits to further this mission. Species Survival Plans, Sea Turtle Conservation Programs, and the International Rhino Foundation are just a few of the conservation efforts that the Gladys Porter Zoo contributes to on a regular basis. For children, the zoo offers an Adopt an Animal program. The tax deductible contribution to the Gladys Porter Zoo lets you pick the specific animal you would like to help feed and house through the year.
