The Riverbanks Zoo has been voted the Best Local Attraction; Best Place to Take Your Children in the Afternoon; Best Day Trip; and South Carolina’s Top Field Trip Attraction by several magazines and newspapers.
The zoo features more than 2,000 animals representing more than 350 species. Its exhibits consist of the Birdhouse at Riverbanks; Lemur Island; African Plains; Large Mammals; Riverbanks Farm; Ndoki Forest; Aquarium Reptile Complex; Australian Animals; and Riverbanks Conservation Outpost.
During the spring and summer there are camps for kids ages 5 to 10. Kids can enjoy behind-the-scenes tours; arts and crafts; animal encounters; games; and a variety of hands-on activities.
Riverbanks Zoo Coupons
Members of the military, seniors, and groups are eligible for Riverbanks Zoo discounts.
If you belong to any of these groups, you’ll pay $10.75 for admission. To receive this discount, military families must show military I.D. Groups of 15 or more persons must make a reservation two weeks prior to their visit.
If you’re a resident of Lexington and Richland counties with proof of residency, you’ll be eligible for free admission on Fridays during the months of January and February. Groups of 15 or more students from schools in these areas will also receive free admission once they register two weeks prior to their visit.
Membership: There are several membership plans available to cater to your individual needs. Such plans include individual; individual plus; individual explorer; family or grandparent; family plus; family explorer; patron; curator; director; and benefactor. Member benefits range from free admission to the zoo to discounts on special events at the zoo.
Hotels Near the Riverbanks Zoo:
Riverbanks Zoo hotel packages are offered through its partners. Its preferred hotels are Embassy Suites Hotel Columbia Greystone and Doubletree by Hilton. Other hotel partners include Columbia Marriott; Courtyard Columbia Downtown at USC; Wingate by Wyndham–Columbia Harbison; Inn at Claussen’s; and Sleep Inn Columbia.
You can also stay at the zoo with one of its overnight programs such as Night Howls; Boo at the Zoo Overnight; and Lights Before Christmas Overnight. You must be 6 years or older to partake in these programs. Register at least three weeks prior to your stay. The maximum number of persons for each program is 50.
Riverbanks Zoo Hours:
Riverbanks Zoo opens everyday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except on holidays such as Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. During its extended spring/summer weekends, the zoo opens from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
