Fresno Chaffee Zoo
Located in Fresno, California, it was only until 2006 that the zoo was called Fresno Chaffee Zoo to make the name more memorable. It was originally called Chaffee Zoological Gardens of Fresno as part of honoring its director, Dr. Paul S. Chaffee.

There are many longstanding exhibits at Fresno Chaffee Zoo. For instance, the Winged Wonders Bird Show was added in 1992. In 2007, the Stingray Exhibit was added though it was only until 2009 that it becomes a permanent exhibit at the zoo. In 2009, the Rainforest Exhibit reopened, but this time, it was called the Tropical Treasures Exhibit.

Other events at Fresno Chaffee Zoo this 2013 include Frogs and Fairytales (March 9), Breakfast with the Animals and Party for the Planet (April 13), Mother’s Day at the Zoo (May 13), Producers Dairy Ice Cream Zoofari (August 10), Dino Nite (September 7), Safari Night (September 20), ZooBoo (October 18 to 19 and 25 to 26), and Zoo Lights (November 29 to 30 and December 1, 6 to 8, 13 to 23, and 26 to 29).

The zoo management offers Fresno Chaffee Zoo coupons and discounts that you and your family, relatives, and friends may use in visiting the zoo.

Membership: Zoo members will receive discounts including free annual admission, free admission to Stingray Bay exhibit, discounted admission to more than 120 zoos, ‘members’ only’ invitation, 10% discount on gift shops, discounts on educational programs, discounts on tickets to special events, and discount at Storyland and Playland.

Group: Educational groups as well as private party groups are offered group rates. Education groups must make reservation through an online form. Private party groups must call the zoo to qualify for the group rate.

Wells Fargo Wednesdays: Through the zoo’s partnership with Wells Fargo, there will be a free admission for children between 2 and 11 years old every first Wednesday of the month.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo is open 364 days annually including most holidays. The zoo will be closed on Christmas Day (December 25). While it will be open on Thanksgiving, it will close at 2 pm.

Directions: Fresno Chaffee Zoo is located at Roeding Park, east of Highway 99, and between Belmont and Olive Avenues.
From the North, from Highway 99 going south, you have to take Olive Avenue exit. Turn left. Roeding Park entrance will be two blocks away. Then, turn right into the park. Keep to the right, leading to the zoo’s entrance.
From the South, from Highway 99 going north, you must take Belmont Avenue exit. Turn right. Drive up to the first stoplight. Turn left. Keep to the left, leading to the zoo’s entrance.
